Do ppl really judge ppl with Ghetto names like' LaRhonda' and Silly Names like "Candy"?

Is it really important what you name your kids, or do ppl say u shouldn't judge ppl usually the ones with F_ed up names?

I was talking to some one who told me

: If I were a manager looking to hire someone with the Tamika Watson, I would assume she's ghetto ( not racial wise)

also someone with the name Candy shouldn't be taken seriously...

I took offense and the asked about my own name ( Jezel Kelly )

and I was actually told by another person " I wouldn'y assume bc Jezel (Gisele) is a French name, and Kelly is Irish.... is this wrong?

what are ur views?

Do ppl really judge ppl with Ghetto names like' LaRhonda' and Silly Names like "Candy"?
Studies have been conducted that show the more rare, or unsual your name is, the less like likely you are to succeed. This hurts blacks as it is common for them to give their children names that no one else has; they simply invent them. A study was done in one CA county that found that 1/2 the blacks had a name that no one else has. And I hate to say it, but it is just as ridiculous as these celebs giving their kids stupid names.

I am a teacher in the inner-city, and these kis kids have the oddest names. Even if the name somewhat close to be common, it is spelled completey wrong. Ex: Demintrius, Deionta, LaKwayla, MyAngel, Quia, Talondea, Marquelle, Denetta, Akaylah, Akeea, Leearion......... none of these names makes it past the spell checker.

Are these names ghetto? Yes. And guess what, with the exception of one of the students I listed above, if I was a boss I would never hire any of them.
Reply:People should NOT be judge according to a name they had no choice in choosing for themselves. Aside from that, no matter how one looks at it, every culture has it's names for it's people. Therefore, judging one by their name is judging their culture and background.
Reply:Yes, quite a few people do. But then, people judge names in all kinds of ways. Some names imply that the person is old, young, from a particular social class, etc.

Parents should think hard before naming their child, because that name will always be with them. They may change it (in England by 'Deed Poll') but it'll always be there in the background.
Reply:yeah they do

if i was a managar looking to hire and i saw the name "candy" or "cherry" i would assume she is a lapdancer of some sort. and name like Shaquilla, LaShonda etc are ridiculous.
Reply:Unfortunately, you are right.

Studies have confirmed what you say. Names ARE used by people to judge others, like it or not.
