Why aren't parents using "ghetto" baby names bothered by the negative associations most people have w/the name

I see you are still bashing my little two year olds name. That is pretty sad that you have make fun of a little girl like that. I think you need to grow up. Anybody that uses the term GHETTO is clearly a racist pig.

Why aren't parents using "ghetto" baby names bothered by the negative associations most people have w/the name
Hahahahahahaha.

I feel sorry for any of her "ghetto" children. Teens shouldn't be having babies. Thank God she's a canuck. Report Abuse

Reply:Wow, how old are you anyways? I just read a post from you the other day on a question where you totally bashed the name of an innocent little girl because you didn't like her name and I can see from your question that you are still continuing to bash the same child. It's sad the only way you can make yourself feel more humane is make fun poor defenseless children that did absolutely nothing to you. It's parents like you that are producing children that hate and discriminate against others because of the color of their skin, color of their hair, ethnic background, or God forbid something as stupid as a name. Grow up lady. Is everyone from Canada as ignorant and as you are?
Reply:I think people get carried-away with trying to come up with something original / one-of-a-kind.

My personal opinion is to avoid ANY name associated with an automobile, adult beverage, or exotic dancer.

This is just a sample of names NOT to name your child:

* Mercedes

* Porsche

* Lexus

* Escalade

* Champagne

* Perrier

* Evian

* Tiffany

* Amber

* Ferrari

....and so on....you get the idea.
Reply:Shaniqua, Latisha (girls)

Lemontjalo (boy)
Reply:Why should we be bothered by the "ghetto" names. I personally think that CONDALEZZA is very ghetto, but it hasn't stopped her from having a successful career. Just because you are given a name doesn't mean you have to live up to the stereotype associated with the name.
Reply:Because they are surrounded by the same type names in their general living environment so therefore it doesn't seem like a negative. A lot of times not all the time they have never experienced a white collar world at a high level where everything from their name to what school they attended to who you play bridge with matters to their financial well being.
Reply:what are ghetto baby names?
Reply:Are you talking about Black people? please be more cleaar...
Reply:I think people who use those ghetto names do not realize what they are doing. They think that they are being cute and creative and unique. Shaquinisha, Heavenlee, Shaniqua-Monet, Lexus, LaTonaka..these are not cute names.Plus when these kids grow up andapply for jobs their resumes will be tossed in the trash before they are even looked at. Now sure enough just because they are named this does not mean they will be unsuccesful in life but they will have a harder time guaranteed. Alot of times people will not take a person with a ghetto name seriously in professional life. If you saw two black female doctors in an elevator with their name tags on Dr. Sockaneesha Princess Jackson or Dr. Linda Jackson who would you take more seriously. Names mean alot.
Reply:I often wondered that myself. I think it's because they don't think about how their children's names will sound in more conservative settings. A place these kinds of names might be considered strange or possibly even a detriment., ie I don't think they're thinking what it will sound like if their kid is someday working in an uptight office building and someone saying, "..this is Shaquanda Chatiqua Alazea Johnson, the newest member of our fraud and accounting division". I think in many cases their families have lived in the same area for generations so they name their kids accordingly. A place where these kinds of names are the common. But who knows maybe they just like the names. Though I gotta admit some of them sound silly to me, but hey I'm white so......okay really silly.
Reply:I think that people who name their kids weird stuff (Tondawanda, Jeesithra, Tonkaneeka. Tissueneesha, etc) are doing their child a serious disservice. What if the child is a mental giant and has to go to college, and then try to find employment with a name like that? And please know that employers don't want their company or business represented by some one with a "ghetto" name. You are setting your child up for a future that's not so bright.

As for it being a white/black thing-it's not. At least not where I live. On the black side, you have names like the above. On the white end of the spectrum. we have tons of frilly, pretentious names or names that the cousins on the Dukes of Hazzard would have. When my daughter was born, there was a mother in the maternity ward who named her child "Amazing Grace".

Frankly, giving a child a name like these is setting them up for a future flipping burgers.
Reply:what are baby ghetto names? do you mean names that only black people use?
Reply:Because, they don't have to live their lives putting up with being cubbyholed or ridiculed by people(especially kids, kids are the meanest!) for having a name that sounds like a combination of a cartoon character and periodic element.
Reply:They don't get upset about it because they don't give a rat's *** about what other people think, including their own children.

And let's be honest here, it IS black people who do this. Have you ever known a white kid named A'Tyah Monique Shaniqua?
Reply:When you think of names for a baby you should ask yourself if you'd like to be called by that name(every minute of your life) before giving the baby that name!
Reply:Because people who give their children names like that usually live in a world that they never expect their children to crawl out of and it never occurs to them that their kids could actually be successful.

In fact, one person who I know through a volunteer organization: her oldest son, who has a ghetto name, fathered his first child at 11. He has 4 other children that I know about, all from different women (all were over 18 at the time of conception) well, she showed me the ultrasound of the next one (number 6) with the woman that he's living with. (he's 19 now, by the way) and she was truly upset when I said, "what? another one?" To her, the fact that her son is this fertile is a success story.
Reply:To each their own I guess.

I personally dislike reall boring names like Sarah, Lucy, Harry, John etc
Reply:can u give me an example of some ghetto names?
Reply:The only ones I have heard calling them Ghetto names are middle and upper class black persons. But, everyone knows what you mean.

These home made names Tamikah, D'a Shonita, Trevarious, Juantavious, just scream lowest class, ignorant trashnames-black or white. Why handicap a child with such garbage.

Arsenio Hall said about his own name that his mother must have hated him to have named him that. He also said that Black Mothers, in his opinion, named them such outrageous names to get back at the child for causing them such pain during labor.
Reply:Maybe they want a name that will grow with the child and in years to come the children that have these "ghetto" names might get teased
Reply:Because they have NO CLASS.

At least you don't have to worry about being born into the Balls family and named Harry...
Reply:The world is full of dffernt ethnicities,to assume that simply bcause a name is differnt from what you are accustomed to is GHETTO is ignorant.

My name is Migdalia,my sisters is Fioldaliza. They may sound ghetto to you ,but to us they are the norm.

I t is this kind of thinking that perpetuates discrimination. People who dont hire because of their names are IDIOTS who are missing outon the Condalezza's of this world.

As for which doctor I would take more seriously? The one who graduated at hte top of her class.Sje could be named dances with wolves for all I care. The negative association s are not of or making they are of the world.
Reply:Because just like parents who name their kids "Biff" and "Buffy" or "Brittney" and "Brad" they have CHOICES as to what to name their children.
Reply:They do it to bother people like who are bothered by something so petty and retarded! Why do u care what other people name there kids? Just because u dont understand something doesnt mean its wrong, and just beacuse u cant prounounce or spell someone elses name doesnt mean they should make it any easier for u. My name is Isabel and thats a very old fashioned name and people still say it wrong or spell it incorrectly.
