Why do people assume "ghetto" names...?

are all that black people name their children, I mean...my name isn't considered ghetto, neither are my brothers...there is this football player at my university named LeQuantum though, I have to admit I have an issue w/ that...what do you think?

Why do people assume "ghetto" names...?
LeQuantum? That sounds like the name of a new Shick razor.
Reply:I love the name Selena it's beautiful.

I don't think my name (Jasmine) is particularly "ghetto" at all, however alot of parents from the projects do call their children Jasmine.

Personally, I think it's up to them if they want to call their kid Shequoiya but calling your children names which embody the ghetto only embraces the situation which is holding us hostage. The ghetto isn't somewhere we should be proud of, it's somewhere we should be trying to get out of.
Reply:for starters, nobody's name is ghetto and people names their children from what they like their child to be reguardless of what others say. Ghetto for names isn't proper language and just cause some names might sound weird or stupid to you, might sound differant to others. All people has their own dislikes and likes and since such name isn't yours why do you let it bother you so much. Doesn't mean it's ghetto and black people isn't either. Racist it sounds like you are and I'm white and if you look at such names are ghetto cause of somebody being black then you need to look at your own and ask was a black person the one who named you also?
Reply:My ma had a habit of giving everybody ghetto names.... my names Quirez, my brother's name is Javontae, my other brother's named Keeondre, my sister's name is LeCresha, and my other sister's are Markeisha and Tanisha and Isidora. But then again some of my friends who are black have names like Marcus, Chris etc.
Reply:Why do you assume that black names are "ghetto"?

You're just as brainwashed.

People can name their kids whatever they want. What exactly is wrong with the name LeQuantum?

Why do people only have a problem with names that are ethnically black?
Reply:My name is not ghetto.....but den again im from a diffrent country and generation, maybe it is a phase thing. that ppl will grow out of.....

My name originates from greece, france, england, germany and ahhh spain i think....=]

spread the love around if yo cann/...
Reply:Selena's a lovely name. It has a nice "classical" ring to it. Goddess of the Moon, if I remember correctly. :-)

People of all backgrounds give their kids odd names. What people do for themselves and each other is more important than what they're called.
Reply:LeQuantum...mmm..don't know about that. why should these names be considered ghetto in the first place?? why do you accept these labels?? so some black mum wants to give their child a different name to Kate or Joe and it's automatically ghetto???
Reply:Anything that isn't British European

I know a white girl with a Swedish name, and they say it is "ghetto" cause it isn't typical BRITISH european
Reply:Yea, people are getting out of that anyways. Nowadays, you might find a woman named QuiQuisha who named her daughter Sydney or Chloe.
Reply:It has never crossed my mind, but now that you mention it I had a girl in my class name Lashiqua, if anything that does sound ghetto but I'm not judging/don't judge anybody by their name
Reply:People have the right to bear any name they were born with or assume as grownups. Why would that be a problem for you?
Reply:Anyone who would assume that is not very bright to begin with.
Reply:I think you make assumptions about white people and at the same time judge your own race. So you are no good.
