What do you think of "ghetto" names?

Are you refering to African-American names?

In general, sophisticated parents will name their kids something sophisticated. I'm not saying it's an African-American thing, celebraties naming their kids Apple or Shilo doesn't rate too high either on the sophistication scale..

I think there is a difference between real, sophisticated names (Swahili names like Adila or "Black-Power names like Ebony) and made up, hard to pronounce names like Shawnqua'na. The former names shows creativity and pride in their culture, but the latter shows nothing except lack of education and future.

What do you think of "ghetto" names?
abnormallly-unique..

Don't get me started on celeb baby names..
Reply:unique and creative!
Reply:I honestly think that the only reason "ghetto" names have a bad wrap is because they seemingly originated from the black community. Even if whites had made names like Shaquita and Lakeisha and blacks had made names like John, Bill, and Peter, they would have called them ghetto.
Reply:I don't know what a ghetto name is?
Reply:I know Im sick of people referring to the names that some Black people are given as "ghetto". People get creative with names for their children, so what. I dont hear anybody here talking about names like "Apple"......
Reply:they are very different and some are very nice and you dont have to worry about anybody else having your name
Reply:This is just one more way that other people will see them as "different". With any group, the more differences you see between you and them, the less you will relate to them. In other words, this is only adding to the disadvantages that this person will experience throughout their life.
Reply:I like them and half of my family has them. Theytre creative and unique and their not boring and popular like micheal, clair or lucy! You will never get bored of hearing them!
