Why are Ghetto names called ghetto?

I think they are unique and beautiful and people are always thinking that every Black person has a ghetto name. Well, my brother is named Bryan, my sister is Jasmine, and my Brother is named Wallace and my name is Ayita with is Native American and everyone thinks it's ghetto.

Why are Ghetto names called ghetto?
I think that people are not as accepting to something different especially names that come from black people or people from different culutres. Most of the names that people consider ghetto is just something creative and different (names that no one else have). I guess if your name ain't Jane and Bob it's considered and shame and a crime. It shows how our society thinks, you will constantly get judged before someone even see you just by the sound of your name. Some people don't even get a call back from a job even if they are qualified. There is nothing wrong with these names it just a little something that makes a person stand out. Look at Oprah. Ain't nobody got that name.
Reply:my name is Airreal my bro name is Kybric those are different but not ghetto names.most ghetto people name there kids ghetto names trying to be different thinking its cute Report Abuse

Reply:I'm white %26amp; when I was pregnant my friend had a daughter named Shaniqua. I loved that name but everyone told me that since that was a black girls name I couldn't name my daughter that. Believe it or not my other black friend said that every name endind in qua ia a ghetto name, I have no idea why but I thought since she was black she would know more than me. I was young %26amp; never should have listened to them
Reply:Actually the practice started in the late 60's early 70's but they were at first African names. Some where along the line people began to get creative with names and wanted cute and original names for their children. There was a real explosion in the 80's and all the eisha started. The only reason they are called ghetto now is because black people have once again harmed themselves by calling themselves ghetto and of course white people have picked up that word and started using it against us. These names are no different than Asian names I worked with a girl named Bang Bong, Indian names Harbinger, and a wide variety of other names I can not pronouce and will not try to spell. When ever black people try to have something of their very own see how white people make it look bad and put a sterotype check next to it. If I worked with a girl name Koleda I would assume she is black, but no she is white. If I worked with a girl named Vanessa I would assume she is black but no she is white. If I worked with a girl name Kendra I would assume she is black but no she is white. If I worked with a girl named Tomika I would assume she is black, no she is white. Don't let these racist white people make you question your name and if they don't like you because they think your name is Ghetto screw em. I knew a white woman named LaWanda, put a Sha in front of that Wanda she is Black what really is the difference. I know the color of the skin.

I wanna exotic naem I am now antinshia
Reply:You are right. They are unique and beautiful, but sometimes people go a little too far with the names like I know a girl named Davonaneshia. People in society often associate those names with the ghetto and label them as ignorant or something which is bogus. But you're name is pretty!
Reply:Sometimes people call black names ghetto because either they never heard of it or they would never think of a name like that to name they child. Dont even worry about what they say girl, if they sat you gotta a ghetto name just say "no I gotta beautifuul name".

Because my name is Uniqua. and people think its ghetto but if you listen to it; it sound pretty "unique".
Reply:at least it's not sneauxkyisha (snow ky eisha)

I know you heard ghetto names b4...You can tell the ghetto ones...the ones that are made up...You have a beautiful name...That's not made up-you can tell b/c it's short and pronounceable...now when it's more than one name put together, then it's ghetto...hey I know a couple of white people called Takeisha...
Reply:I don't know, ghetto names to me are like made up or fake African names. I'm Black and my name is Shauna and my brother's name is Jon so that's not a true stereotype about Black people.
Reply:My name is beautiful and exotic too. I am going to name my daughter something exotic if I ever have one. I'm tired of the same old names like Jennifer, Mike, Amber, and all those common names. They are ugly in my opinion. A person's name is what defines them. Why would you want to have a name that everyone else has?
Reply:ghetto to me is words like................baby momma
Reply:Ghetto superstar, that is what you are. I would take it as a compliment. The people saying it do not know that Native Americans don't like blacks.
Reply:i it because ware you live
Reply:Sorry, they are ghetto because no one else in there right mind would do that to their kid. If you don't think it will affect you. you are wrong. I have never in my life gone into a important meeting anywhere and heard " Hi Matt let me introduce you to Shawanda our VP of sales" Unique is great and all but get real.
Reply:ghetto names or given to ghetto people because their ghetto
