Why does the ghetto have a bad name?

I lived in the ghetto and I'm proud of it and that's why I'm asking this question. I hear everyday that I need to get my a** out of the streets b4 something happens to me from people who live in nicer areas than me. What's going to happen to me? Why do you think that? Yeah I know that you hear about a lot of people getting killed and dropping out if school and having kids when they're 14, but were not the only ones. And you haven't felt love intil you felt a ghetto love, not to many people outside of the ghetto know whst it means to really ride for some body. So why do we have a bad name?

Why does the ghetto have a bad name?
I'M GHETTO AND I'M PROUD OF IT.

Reply:I grew up in a ghetto, and I despise it. I never felt this "ghetto love" you speak of. I paid attention in school, and speak (mostly) proper English, so I was treated like sh*t. Education = trying to be "White". All of the girls I grew up with had babies by the time they were 18. They were all stupid Ho's. Their only aspiration in life was to get wit the new guy on the block. Every time people would come into this neighborhood to try and fix it up, they received no support, and the place was destroyed again within a week. I hate the "ghetto". I'll NEVER go back.
Reply:If you like the ghetto then fine. I thought I was happy in the ghetto because it takes a lot to make me unconfortable. I finally got mugged and moved to a nice part of town. MY GOD is there a big difference. People don't blare their music or yell all the time. People are friendly and considerate. It is a BIG difference. I am so happy now that Im out of the ghetto.
Reply:Anyway the media portrays something everyone goes for it.I am sure there are alot of good decent law abiding citizens living in projects.Let everyone know how you feel get it off your chest you will feel better.I wish everyone could live in nice suburban American in a beautiful home but unfortunately that is just the way it is.
Reply:as you pointed out its not a place in your mind, its the people, and the people that never know the folks that live, will never know the heart that you have in you ,live a good life, move up ,but try to give back something, i build houses for habitat, and i live in a crack hood
Reply:its the ghetto...its a not so good place.
Reply:History would seem to be the main reason ghetto has an adverse meaning .......

The term ghetto spread in Europe subsequently to point out the part of the city inside which the citizens of Jewish origin had to reside obligatorily. If entirely Jewish districts already existed in the ancient times, the ghettos as centers of compulsory residence they were spread because of the hostility of the Christianity to the Jewish religion. Even the muslims were hostile to the Jewish, considering them unfaithful to the Koranic law.

The first ghetto legally enacted was the Roman one, constituted in 1555. During the following three centuries, similar ghettos rose in Europe (in Germany they were called Judengasse). They were surrounded by tall wall and they communicated with the rest of the city through doors that were closed at night. Inside the ghettos the Jewish had their own political, economic and religious autonomy ,but because of the congestion of the buildings and the continuous risk to be expelled, the conditions of life were often extremely precarious. Abolished for the first time in France in 1791,during the revolution, in the 19th century they were abolished in Europe. During the second world war the German Nazi dictatorship imposed the reopening of the ghettos both in Germany and in the occupated countries , so to practise the politics of extermination of the Jewish of the gypsies and of the homosexuals.

Currently the term " ghetto " is used for indicate urban areas in which the weakest bands of the society and minorities of varied kind are assembled.
Reply:if its a ghetto its a shithole...sorry to disapoint you.
Reply:Simply, most people don't want to 'live' somewhere where the potential to 'die' is higher. Personally, I try to avoid anything remotelly 'ghettoish' at all costs.
