Is Malaysia a ghetto name?

My husband is from there, and I wanted to name out daughter after the country

people give names like Paris America and London

Is Malaysia a ghetto name?
no its fine
Reply:I wouldn't classify it as ghetto but I would call it tacky.

Naming a child for a geographical point is cheap, tatty, tawdry, trashy, trendy, tasteless, and cheesy.

To me, it indicates a lack of depth on the part of the namer:

1) the namer wants to stroke his/her own ego as being on the cutting edge, unique, or creative

2) there doesn't appear to be any consideration of the child who has to cope with such a name (teasing, bullying, and the like)

3) there doesn't appear to be any thought given to the future about how this name can affect the child as an adult. These tend to be Hollywood-type names and don't serve the average adult very well. Would I trust a judge named Paris or a physician named London? Hardly! This type of bias exists and parents who want to be unique refuse to accept this fact of life.

If you are totally enamored of the name, then please relegate it to the middle name and use a traditional first name like Kathryn, Elisabeth, or Carolyn. Then your daughter can choose which name to use as an adult.

For your daughter's sake, please take the time to really think about this.
Reply:yeah, use it as a middle name.

it would look weird as a first name. but it would actually look quite nice as a middle name.

i used to live in a place called astrid meadows, and because it was the best thing that ever happened to me, i was going to call my daughter astrid, but it looked a bit weird so i'm saving that as a middle name :)

i don't know if malaysia is a ghetto name...
Reply:No. There are some places that are good names, and some that aren't. I'm not big on the whole Paris and London fads [and by the way, those are cities, not countries] but Malaysia does sound a bit ghetto. There are some things that just don't work. You wouldn't name your kid Afghanistan or Zimbabwe, would you? Do you see what I'm getting at?
Reply:First of all Paris and London are not countries.

Just because thats where your husbands from doesn't mean you should name your kid Malaysia YES IT SOUNDS GHETTO!!

THERE ARE BILLIONS OF OTHER NAMES TOO CHOSE FROM

Kolby Danica Valarie Kambria Christine Laurelle Claire Lauren Alexa

Give your daughter a date worthy name..
Reply:I think place names that aren't usually used as names come across as kind of trashy, personally. I think it would be nicer to give your daughter a Malaysian name instead.
Reply:not really. I mean its not a "made up" name. Its the name of a country, but i dont think its a good name for a child.
Reply:I don't think that it's ghetto but I also don't think that I would use it as a first name. A middle name would probably be nice.
Reply:I'm not a fan of it.
Reply:It's not as approachable as a Paris or America.

maybe a variation of it like Malaya is a better choice
Reply:Um i wouldn't, only because its not very easy to say..... Its pretty for a middle name, not a first name 鈽衡樅
Reply:Its not ghetto but its not very nice. Perhaps as a middle name it would be nice.
Reply:I'm from Malaysia and even i don't think it's a good idea
Reply:If you are from there, I could see using it. But use it as a middle name.
Reply:I don't like it. I prefer Maya.
Reply:Don't do it. Maybe a middle name but not a first.
Reply:I like it but you'd need to give her a nickname. Maybe Milly, Miley, or Molly.
Reply:roma
Reply:yes it is a ghetto name......
Reply:no. my sister has a friend named malaysia ;) its a relle nice name
