I told my mom that I would name my future daughter "Shante"--like "Shan-Tay"--and she said "NO! That's just a ghetto name tryin' to be French!"..

For Black Women--Is Shante a Ghetto Name?
I am black and no Shante is not a "ghetto" name it's a common name, just like Kimberly, Michelle, Brittany, ANNA, and John. There are "African American" people who do name their children odd names, but not all "black" people name their children crazy names. My son's name is Michael (damn how weird is that a black person actually naming their child a "normal" name.) Honey despite what people may say it's your child and the only person that has to raise that child is you and the father; name your child what you want.

Arguably there are names that should not be names like Semien or Latrina and those are ones I would call ghetto, but everyone seems to refer to Evangelical/European names are the norm for America...I wonder why? well if it helps...i think its a really pretty name...and its definatly NOT WIERD...its normal i would say...but lots of pple are saying that its ghetto so ya i bet they arnt the only ones that are gonna...maybe u should just choose a different name...theres lots of really pretty names out there! and i wouldn't want my daughter to be unliked because of her name or anything...i kno this girl whos last name is shithead...ya i din't swear! its pronounced differently! lol
