Reply:FYI:

For hundreds of years, hurricanes in the West Indies were named after the particular saint's day on which the hurricane occurred. An Australian meteorologist began giving women's names to tropical storms before the end of the 19th century. In 1953, the U.S. National Weather Service, which is the federal agency that tracks hurricanes and issues warnings and watches, began using female names for storms.

In 1979, both women and men's names were used. One name for each letter of the alphabet is selected, except for Q, U and Z. For Atlantic Ocean hurricanes, the names may be French, Spanish or English, since these are the major languages bordering the Atlantic Ocean where the storm occur.

So who decides what names are used each year? The World Meteorological Organization uses six lists in rotation. The same lists are reused every six years. The only time a new name is added is if a hurricane is very deadly or costly. Then the name is retired and a new name is chosen.

I guess the World Meteorological Organization is not into ghetto names probably don't know any either.

Reply:I live on the Coast, I hate it when they have to name one!

Personally! the names are boring as Hell though! but forgive me lord I'm not complaining, cause we haven't seen one in quite a while. whoooosh! You're right though. They've never used my name and it's just an ordinary every day name. I can never figure that one out.
Reply:The people who give hurricanes their names actually don't just 'think them up' ... there is a list made up of different names in alphabetical order, and a storm is named when it becomes a 'tropical storm' ... and not all become hurricanes. The people who make these lists must use all of the past lists to be sure they don't repeat any names for a certain amount of time, and they are all white people evidently who are very 'normal' and 'middle class.' I think that we'll get 'ghetto sounding names' when there are some blacks who don't think that 'ghetto names' are prejudicial against blacks on the list of people who name the hurricanes.
Reply:like Hurricane Aquanetta? lol

what about hillbilly or backwoods names, like Becky Sue?
Reply:We have enough of those to try to pronounce as it is, thanks.
Reply:When you say "ghetto" do you mean like names a black person might have? I can see where some black people will not find this humorous or awesome.
