I absolutely love ghetto names...they instill so much respect in people. Imagine filling out a job application for a mjor investment firm and putting the name "Marquashay" at the top. That girl would get hired in a second! What are some other noble ghetto names? I like Bunquisha, Dormishica, LaShante, LaQuamanisha, Jasminiqua (or Jasmine is also nice and ghetto), Duquita, Sha-nay-nay, Welfare, Boo, DaShawn, LaMika, Marquita, Bunquashay, Trina, Chenaqualay, LaCrackface, Cliniqua, Lexus, Mercedes, Funiqua...what are yours? I can't wait to name a baby one of these royal names. I need other names.
What are the most respectable ghetto names?

Reply:You are honestly being sarcastic and rude. No body cares that you hate these types of names.
I thought you were serious until I read Sha-nay-nay, Welfare, Boo, and La Crackface.
The time it took you to write all these names out, you could have been looking up "good manners" online.
Reply:Very interesting question. My contribution is below, but first I would like to caution everyone who discounts this question that they are spineless and afraid of anything that runs near the edge of PC issues. You are the reason America is going down the tubes, you are the reason they no longer keep score in youth sports and your parents were wrong YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL. I shall continue now with the names and a site with an interesting article. Damitre, Darrent, Damortgage, Farnsworth, Unegue, Uneqqee, Uneek,
Reply:Welfare? Not even a little funny.
LaCrackface?
Reply:As a woman of color, I have to say that I think your making a big mistake. I respect your decision to name your child whatever you want, and ghetto sounding names do sound cool. However, in this day and age unfortunate society tends to prejudge one another. Whether you are from the ghetto or not, whether you are intelligent or not, whether you are white or not, judgments are going to be made automatically. Chances are they will not be favorable. And, I'm sure that a good percentage of your childs resume will be thrown out, before they even get a chance to glance it, simply because they are trying to weed out "Undesirables." There is alot of competition out there for jobs. Potential employers need to narrow down potential candidates somehow. You don't want to put your child at a disadvatage before they even step through the employers door (if they even get that far)I'm sure you want your child to succed in whatever it is that they do, and be treated fairly. Please reconsider your decision. Ulitmately though, it is your decision, Good Luck !

I realize that some people judge names, people, races, cultures and traditions because they do not understand. Ignorance is not always bliss. As a someone who studies words for a living I thought it my duty to inform you that "Dormishica" is not a "ghetto name". However, it does mean one of faith and is a derivative of the Portuguese and Greek terms for faith and hope. I'm sure you don't know how to pronounce it, but those who have heard it believe it to be one of the prettiest names they've heard.
ReplyDelete"Door-me-she-ka"
I do agree that society makes it rather difficult to be given a chance with a name so unique and different or names which are blatant combinations of names which probably don't go together. However, some names do have meaning and represent the person perfectly and to stereotype it as ghetto simply because of your ignorance (lack of knowledge) is, to say the least, sad.
