Why black people always be giving their kids ghetto names?

Like things that end in "shonda" and "equa".

Do you think giving them names like this will limit them when they look for an office job?

Btw; I'm black.

Why black people always be giving their kids ghetto names?
I guess for the same reason that black people like YOU use improper grammar (IE "always be giving"). I don't know if those names will hinder them career-wise in the future, but not knowing how to communicate your thoughts intelligently will probably hinder you!

Reply:Okay, no one cares whether or not you're black. This is still a silly question. Lots of black people have 'normal' names. Lots of white people have weird names. It's all a matter of perception.

I'm guessing the type of black people who give their kids those names like laquanda and shanequa and whatnot just like those names-maybe they have a name similar to it. Perhaps those parents are (gasp!) ghetto themselves thus name their children (gasp!) ghetto names!

Limit them when they look for an office job-what kind of office job? no, not if they're really qualified for it.

Why do black people always seem to give their kids ghetto sounding names? is how you should have phrased it. If you can speak and write properly and have a decent education then you should be able to hold any office position, regardless of your name.

btw, I'm black too %26gt;=P
Reply:I think some people of every ethnicity just want to give their kids unique names. Sometimes some may sound "ghetto" to people, but I highly doubt that's a parents intention when they are naming their child.

I guess some names could hurt when applying for jobs, some stiff looking through resumes just might assume someone with a different name would be "different" themselves and not bother bringing them in for an interview, figuring they wouldn't fit in with the company.
Reply:Number one because they can.

Number two: it is not only a black thing!

No one asks for credentials before a woman/young girl becomes pregnant. So it does not require an education, or knowledge of any kind other than having sex. Animals can do that.

I personally know a white girl that has given both of her daughters names that make me simply shake my head. It is a common theme in America I guess to try and come up with the most unique and unusual name even if the way it is spelled is not the proper pronunciation.

Forget simply office job, what about growing up and using this name that is so odd no one can pronounce it or say it properly.

Many people are doing this, white, black, hispanic, etc. Personally, I would prefer the term "unusual or unique name" oppossed to ghetto names... My goodness do you have a college education?
Reply:Why do you care?

Condoleezza and Oprah didn't seem to have problems finding jobs and their names are about as "ghetto" as can be.

Of course some jobs judge based on name (sort of like what you're doing) which is ridiculous. Whose to say that LaKeisha is any more or less intelligent than Brittany or Ashley?

I think people should be able to name their children whatever they want without worrying about what our narrow-minded society has to say about it.

Why are "black names" considered "weird"?

Why are "white names" considered "normal"?

Why do black people accept this and call each other "Ghetto" because of a name?

A name doesn't make you "ghetto" your behavior does.
Reply:A person should not judge another by their name and how well they can do their work or how educated the person is. I believe there are names not "ghetto names". There are some names that NO I would not have named my child that. I don't think shonda is a ghetto name. For instance Shonda Rhimes (sp) the lady who is behind the tv show Greys Anatomy is black. If she thought her name would hold her back from doing what she wanted her show would not be a #1 tv show.

If a person think they will be limited because of their name well, they can get their education and own their own business and hire only mary, becky, ruby, john, bob, dick, etc.
Reply:i think thats interesting because alotta whites have interesting names also. usually surnames. i knew a white girl name christina chystokkowkyski

no fuckin lie. many years ago europeans immigrants like the irish came over and they would actually change their last names so they could get jobs because employers wouldnt hire an irish person. So i mean if you're going to name your kids, name em something you want , dont fuckin care about what other people will think because its your kid
Reply:I personally don't think the name in itself will prevent them from getting a job (unless their boss is a die hard racist KKK/NRA). A lot of families just like to give their children original names to make them feel special and to give them a sense of their heritage. Some names I agree are very far fetched. My niece goes to school with a little girl named Shithead. Look at it- it spells Sh*t head!!!! It's pronounced Shethed. So, yea it's all boils down to how ridiculous the name is and the reason for naming your child that.
Reply:bahaha bameesha?

and yes, i do think they will be limited, as much as someone with the name muhammad or jose. employers, of course, will deny this.
Reply:"Why black people always be giving......"

I can't get past the hypocracy of your ghetto grammar to take this question seriously.
Reply:Because they think it is cool and in reality it is awful people please don't name your kids stupid names and names they can't pronounce their selves
Reply:maybe they think the names are pretty. no such thing as a ghetto name, just ghetto people.

i'd rather a moniqua to another jane or sara anyday.
Reply:Are you referring to a name like your's.... Bameesha? I dont know. They like the sound of the name I guess.
Reply:Says Bameesha.
Reply:its unique....okay.
Reply:Thick people give their kids stupid names because thats what sillyheaded peeps do!
Reply:why not?! freedom of choice! i love a good shaneequa ;)
Reply:no!i have note book with like about 1000 white names 20 Japanese names, and like about 7 ghetto names cause i think sum black names are HARD to pronounce.

im black too.
