Are trashy/ghetto names really going to affect someone? Do u know someone with that type of name?

My teacher actually sd today' oh Jezel Kelly, um, I though your name was Latoya' ( while he was taking the attendance)

I was NOT impressed

Are trashy/ghetto names really going to affect someone? Do u know someone with that type of name?
I don't think that Jezel or Latoya are trashy names and I live in Australia. I know someone named Jezel except she spells her name Jazelle and she lives in Bondi, a 'well off' area in Sydney. It's never affected her with getting a job, sometimes she needs to spell her name for people. Some of the names that celebrities name their children these days, you've got to wonder what's considered a normal name.
Reply:Names make a great impression on people expecialy if they have never met them(like on applicaions) It can affect things like getting certain jobs getting into certain colleges it can even give the person an impression of who you are:

case and point My philosophy teacher named his daughter charlie when she applied at a large engineering firm(All men worked there) she got an Interview, In the interview the man confessed he thought he was going to be interviewing a male.

Its not just enthlicly biased its also gender. It shouldn't make a diffrence but it does.
Reply:My friend used to live in the south for a few years and worked in a day care center. And HONEST TO GOD, he said that there was a little boy who was named, "Sexy". He had to call the kid by his last name because it was so embarrasing. Seriously, people can go be ghetto on another planet. And no, I'm not racist, I am a black person myself, and I would never even imagine to do something so detrimental to my child.
Reply:From personal experience people look at me crazy or confused when I tell them my real name. I'm getting it officially changed this year without a doubt. You can't make me keep this name.
Reply:Wow your teacher is racist! What a jerk. Eh i dont like the over the top ghetto names just cause everyone makes so much fun of them but honestly if something like Shanaynay has special meaning LOL go for it.
Reply:I'm not sure. I mean if your name is ridiculous, like, Broomquisha (broom-kee-shah) then yes, because kids will make fun of you. But if your name is reasonable, then no
Reply:yeah because there are tons of racist people out there and they obviously are going to make mean comments on their name... i don't get your story about your teacher and all that
Reply:everybody has their own definition of a trashy. I think it isn't the name of a person that makes them trashy but how they act and so forth.
Reply:i love the name Latoya :)

haha.

um your teacher sounds kinda... rude !

What do you think about these names? Do you think they are too ghetto?

GeKyra Mone'

GeKira Monette

GeAnna

Gelissa

these are all girls names

Please keep it real. If you don't like them say you don't like them. If you have any names for boys or girls starting with Ge please let me know. Thanks.

What do you think about these names? Do you think they are too ghetto?
i like the name GeAnna, i've seen it spelled Gianna before. None of those names sound to ghetto to me. Some sound very pretty. heres some i thought up.

Geleah (ga-lee-uh)

GeMyya (ga-my-uh)
Reply:i like gelissa ane' (prnounced anay) Report Abuse

Reply:GeAnna is really cute!
Reply:If you are going for Ghetto-you have found it. Gelissa might be OK. How about Gertrude for a girl. Not sure about boy names.
Reply:hi i like Geanna it's different also Gekira But not the rest.

Ge names i can think of are Genelle, Gemma,Georgia,Geneva and Genet for girls and Geno, Geordie and george for boy xxx
Reply:keep in mind that children are cruel
Reply:I like Gelissa and GeAnna isn't bad.

You might also like Talia, but it doesn't start with Ge.
Reply:I think too ghetto...

sorry, don't have any suggestions instead....
Reply:Genesis like the bible, Genniyah, Gensiah, Gennifer, Gelyrica,Genmari , Genmoni, Ge'marious, Ge'marion, Gentaisha, and Gearra are some suggestive name. But i personally like the name you have because they are different , oh two more name i now that with Ge is Gensasha or Genrissa. I know some names may sound odd . Again as you figured i like unusal names my daughter is name Lyrical.
Reply:Oh yeah. WAY too ghetto for me! Well, all except GeAnna. That's a pretty name.
Reply:lol definetly ghetto!!
Reply:way too ghetto, try a baby name site, if you google baby names then you get quite a lot of sites to pick from.
Reply:Yeah way to ghetto, Monette

Monet is cute prn Mo-net or Mo-nay

Brianna

What about Genna
Reply:i like georgia for a ge name but thats just me. geanna and for a middle name i like monette so geanna monette... beautiful. the other ones i think might be a little tough for say a kindergartener to spell at first. i would be careful with the gek names because people might pick fun at her when she is a kid too. trust me im battling with baby names right now too! picking a name that isnt hard to spell and they wont get made fun of for is so hard!! good luck hun!
Reply:Sorry but I think they are a little bit, any name that sounds like it was just made up by adding a different syllable other then how you would normally hear the name said makes it ghetto. Adding Ge to the normal name of Alissa for example.
Reply:GeAnna is a pretty name. I don't like the others.
Reply:GeKyra Mone' (sounds like money?)

if so its really ghetto

the rest of them could be good names, but are still kind of ghetto.

my suggestions: Gelsey? Geneva? Genevieve? Georgia? Georgina? Geraldene? Gertrude?

my real suggestions: maybe don't use Ge.. (unless your set on it)
Reply:Gelissa isn't too bad but the others are a little ghetto.
Reply:I don't really like them

Too ghetto

I am not into that stuff
Reply:actually i kno sum 1 who was gonna name there kid Geonna if they had a girl an i think that is very pretty an no they are not ghetto an i hate wen ppl act that way yooh kno but i think Geonna is close to GeAnna an i like Geonna a lil better so i dunno yooh could think about that an if yooh like these name yooh might also like Kayona and Kaylisa oh an GeOvana
Reply:GeAnna and Gelissa are actually ok.
Reply:i personally do not like any of them. GeAnna is the best out of all of them, but i don't understand why you don't spell it Geanna, without capitalising the a. i don't think the capital a is necessary. monette actually sounds kind of cute...
Reply:I like GeKyra..

She could always just take of the Ge and go by Kyra..

But like everyone else said..its YOUR baby.

Hope this helped=)
Reply:yes they're ghetto
Reply:Is it Ge as in Gentle or Ge as in get? Kyra is a nice name. You ask if they're too ghetto, and I would say so. I've seen kids with strange names get put out of school after school because they keep getting into fights. Give your kid a name that's easy to pronounce and spell. School is hard enough!

Boys names: Gefanya, Gefen, Geoff

Girls names: Gemelle, Geena, Genesis, Geneva, Genevieve, Genevra, Genna, Gennelle
Reply:nope, dont like them at all...but thats just my opinion
Reply:I actually like Gekyra (if I'm saying it right - Jekira) and GeAnna. The rest kind of disturb me, but hey they're your kids.
Reply:Gelissa is good - the rest of them are a little on the ghetto side.
Reply:way ghetto
Reply:Gelissa is the only name on your list that even sounds like one that could be used, but yes they all sound very ghetto.
Reply:They're certainly different. They're not bad names though. They all could work because they don't sound all that bad, the problem comes in the spelling and I believe that's where she will run into all of the stereotyping problems. Honestly, I don't like Mone or Monette but Mone does sound nice with Gekyra. One thing you could do is lowercase the "K" and an "H" at the end, Gekayrah. In this way the name maintains its uniqueness but loses that pieced together look it had before. You could also spell Mone with two "E's" giving it that french look.

Other Ge names that you might like are: Genesis (Greek-Beginnings), Genevieve (French-woman of the people), Gemelle (Latin-twin), Genesee (Native American-beautiful valley).

Gianna (Hebrew for God is Gracious). I know that you only wanted Ge names, this name is a softer version of GeAnna.

Hope this helped and Good luck.

My cousin is havin a girl. She wants the name to start with a J. No ghetto names... Any suggestions?

Why do people give their kids ghetto names?

It's a culture. Why do French people name their kids Jacques and Francoise? Germans name their kids Hans and Ute? Spanish speakers Carlos and Pilar? Just respect and accept.

Why do people give their kids ghetto names?
Why do i have a french name ? Why do you have an american name? Why does mandela have an African name? Why does Mao Tse Tung have an asian name? The globe is a conglomerate of so many cultures. Let's all celebrate rich and diverse cultures of the world. Report Abuse

Reply:I know money isn't everything but in the USA a name like Taquisha or Reneeka or Afreeka on a job application or resume gives a company who has a large potential pool of job applicants, a chance to omit people that they know nothing else about.

I know people with "ghetto" names, I also know people with "simple" American sounding names, and tongue twisting French names, and ancient Biblical names, and hard sounding German names...it's all in the viewpoint.

When you really think about it, most peoples names sound pretty funny, especially if you haven't heard of them before.

What are the names of some "ghetto" Broadway plays?
What exactly do you mean by ghetto Broadway plays. West Side story is a classic about Spanish teens from the ghetto bumping heads with poor white kids from a neighboring ghetto. Is that what you wee looking for?
Reply:That's a new one! I've never heard of Broadway, ghetto plays.

Honey, I've been going to the theatare since I was 10 years old and have never seen or heard of Ghetto plays - tell us you just made up a new classification of theatre!

Are you referring to plays that reference the "ghetto" in the dialogue?

Can you give an example of what you are asking?

Please be more specific.

Have any studies been done in regards to ghetto names and future success?

What do the 2 groups have in common?:

Group 1: Aki-sha, D'avante, Ma-onnie, Kadeshia, Javonte'

Group 2: John, Susan, Theresa, Gary,Daniel, Marcia

Answer: They are names of black adults. Group 1 are adult names taken off of medicaid cards. Group 2 are actual names of local black doctors, lawyers and pharmacists.

I am not a socialologist but there seems to be a direct relationship to ghetto names and future success.

I only gave a few examples out of literally hunreds of names I could have listed but the results are the same as above.

Whats the rap song where the guy is naming off ghetto girls names?
"Freek-A-Leek" by Petey Pablo

i think

Do you have something against "ghetto names"?

at least certain parts of the population are trying to be creative/original.....

Do you have something against "ghetto names"?
There are not only black ghetto's there are ghettos all around the world. I feel to each his own I just wonder when the rest of the country is going to realize that most of the population has gone ghetto. Just because a name is unfamiliar and may intimidate you does not mean that that person is any less or more intelligent. Or that they are any less of a decent person than "John" or "Jane". Ghetto names sometimes have great meaning behind them. Others are just because it sounds unique and original. Not that I have anything against plain names some of them are biblical names others are names of ancestors, etc. Our children have "ghetto names" and we are proud of their names they are a combination of our own names. The people who discriminate now won't be around forever and one day the children who were named in " ghetto fashion" will be the ones interviewing and holding positions of power. And do you think they will discriminate against "John" or "Mark" ? Most likely not.
Reply:What are ghetto names? If you mean names that are made up? Well, yea...kinda..because I have no idea how to pronounce them, none what so ever. And if you think that is being creative, think again...Being creative is using your great grand father middle name with your dad's first. Now if these made up names had some sort of meaning that was handed down from your ancestors, that would be different... You and I both know, they are made up and mean nothing. Try Debra and Mary and Susan, something someone is pronounce. .. ..
Reply:rich names breed rich kids ghetto names breed ghetto kids.like howard fine will probably be a lawyer or something and shantee boowha will probably be a drug dealer.lol
Reply:I do when they are spelled phunkie and have the whole ' apostrophe stuff goin on.
Reply:I am assuming that you mean names like Sheniqua, Shaquanda, and/or naming kids after cars or even alcoholic beverages like Alize, etc.

I don't have anything against the names, but don't be surprised when your children have difficulties with obtaining scholarships or even jobs, because as much as we don't like it, the prejudice is there.

When reading the name Shequanda - I imagine a black women that is highly likely to have an attitude for the most part of the day, talks slang and is truly ghetto. May or may not be true, but even if it goes unsaid, that's what the corporate is thinking!!

(by the way, I am an african - american woman, so need to try and say what I said is racist)

...and thank the Lord, my Mom had the since to name me Lori and I named my daughter Taylor!!!
Reply:nothing against most- btu really depends
Reply:they're cool, but certain other parts of the population who like hire for employment tend to judge the applicants. Hopefully that won't still be the case when the babies being born now are looking for work, but I wouldn't want to risk my child's future with it.
Reply:It doesn't bother me. I think some of them are sort of odd, but I enjoy hearing the story behind names. Most of the "ghetto names" I hear are beautiful.
Reply:Yes I do. It is a disservice to your child to saddle them with name that is hard to spell and pronounce. Society in general will judge you first by your appearance, then by your name. That is just the way it is. Not saying it is right, it is a fact. One can have an uncommon name, but that doesn't mean it should be ridiculously hard to spell, pronounce and have no sense of meaning or history. Shouldn't one want to strive to be above the ghetto mentality, by having respect for yourself and the people in your life and community?
Reply:i agree....I don't know what "ghetto names" are.... could you clarify?
Reply:no getto names r funny to give black people
Reply:would you give us an example? because i don't know what the ghetto name are i only know nick names.
Reply:People will judge you constantly. picking a "ghetto name" like Tayshawn, etc-predominantly Black names, while really beautiful

will help people have preconceived notions about you.

but my friend is naming her son Dayzon, and i like it-f*ck what ppl say!

white b*tches suggesting names like Susan need 2 shut up
Reply:What are ghetto names?
Reply:well i've heard that you're less likely to get a job with a so-called 'ghetto name'. but i think a lot of them are really beautiful. it's sad that they have such negative associations. when i was little there was a girl in my class called LaTisha, and i thought it was the most wonderful name in the world.
Reply:I have nothing against "ghetto" names. Does the person naming their child with one have something against their child? If it's obviously a "ghetto" name why use it? Unless one WANTS their child to stay in the ghetto!!!!!
Reply:I am strongly anti-ghetto names because they may be cool growing up, but if you're a boss looking at potential employees, do you think the boss will pick Lily or Shaniqua for the new position? Exactly...
Reply:Ghetto names are the ones that prevent people from taking you seriously in life. They are a barrier to employment above a base level.
Reply:Hopefully I'm not offending anyone here, but when you say "ghetto names" I'm assuming you're referring to names commonly given to African-American children. (Personally, I think calling them "ghetto names" is rather insulting, but moving on...) The only problem I would have is that these names have become so common they are sort of becoming a stereotype, much like white families who use names like "Hunter" or "Madison." I would be just as likely to give a thumbs down to a person who wanted to name a child something like Jayden as I would to someone who wanted to name their kid Shaniqua (sp?).
Reply:Well it all depends on what you consider to be a ghetto name because in some cultures, the name"tasha" could be ghetto but people still have the name and it may stand as a name of stature , but if a person had the name " William" it may stand as a name with a meaning of power. But another person may not think the name could mean positivity simply because they knew alot of people by that name who lived a so called typical ghetto life so it depends.

He was named after the busta rhyme's song, "pass the cavasia". And fellow blacks: don't be embarassed or mad if someone asks about a "ghetto" name. I mean, you shouldn't refer to it as ghetto, but i would rather my child have a "ghetto" name than a generic christian name because it shows originality. When Africans were brought over to the US during slavery, they were forced to give up their original names and take caucasian first and last names. So why be upset that most blacks are trying to move away from that and be original?
Reply:Okay, first of all, I have been enlightened, enlighten this. There are white ghetto people, too. I've seen them. Hell, I go to school with a wannabe ghetto boy, and he's white (actually white and either half or a fourth Native American but he looks white).

As far as most ghetto name, which could be for any race because I didn't see the girl, Ja'Fawna. I'm not lying.

And I know of a child, whom I am sure is white, named Kellenbrad. Mom - Kelly. Dad - Brad. Baby - Kellenbrad? WTF?!!!!!!!!
Reply:Why do white people ask this all the time. You have nothing better than to pick on others? I'm not ghetto, but this ticks me off. It may sound outragous to you, but to them it is normal. I'm sure they find your name boring as well.
Reply:I have heard a few, but they weren't all from the ghetto. The worst name I ever heard was from a couple who lived down south in the country (no offense). He was Roger and she was Wendy.

JaQuarius.
Reply:Why is a unique, or even crazy, name associated with the 'ghetto'? I think Apple is a stupid, crazy name. Also, think about Demi Moore's kids: Rumer, Scout? Come the heck on? Not that I would ever name my kids something unique like Kaprisha, I don't think you should be associating a name with an area of town.

That's what's wrong with people today. This is the prejudice and racism a lot of people face because of their name. It has been proven, in at least TWO studies, that employers will call people back with names like Sara and Brendan before they call Tyrone or something otherwise considered 'black' back.

GHETTO-give me ghetto names for boys, mi aunt iz having twin boys and she needz sum help naming them?
That is so wrong. Why not be unique and give them a common American name? It may sound odd, but someone's name can really affect the child's future, not to mention what people will perceive of them and their upbringing.

If your aunt is that determined to give her children "ghetto" names, try something that is still common with the African American race yet still classy.

James, Bryan, William, Christopher, Preston, Craig or something! Just please don't name them Ta'Christopher and La'Preston!
Reply:I got these from a ghetto name website of names that were actually given to children: The "T" names are ghetto-fabulous.

What are the most ghetto names?

The ones the racists decide they don't like, perhaps.

What makes a name "ghetto?"

Think about it.

Dear, dear, Kelly, first off, I don't have what you people define as a "ghetto" name. Second, I pity the black people who buy into the stereotypical nonsense that racist whites force upon us.

The name LaKeisha has just as much meaning as the name Ashley, yet Anglo-Conformity will tell you otherwise.

Too bad so many of you are blind to it.

Of course you assume that, Kelly. I didn't expect too much more from the likes of you.

Blaise, while you're riding your high horse, have you ever considered why traditionally "Black" names are considered "Unacceptable" and traditionally "White" names are considered acceptable and never made fun of? Or are you one of the many blacks who accept the fact that in order to get by in this country you have to conform to their standards? Seems to be the latter. If that went over your head, look up the name "LaKeisha" and tell me what it means (It does indeed have a meaning) then look up the name "Ashley" and tell me how it's better than the name LaKeisha?

I don't think I should have to name my child Brittany just because society thinks that it's a better name than Lucrezia (which is an actual name with an actual meaning).

There is no such thing as a bad name or a good name. The dominant society dictates to us what is bad and what is good, which is why black people call "nappy" hair "Bad" hair and traditionally black names are "ghetto" and "unacceptable" while traditionally white names are not.

You yourself said people judge names like that. Are you not one of them?

What are the most ghetto names?
Do you mean black names or the names that white people living in brick veneer cul-de-sacs inflict on their children? Madison, Taylor, Tyler, Riley, Ashley, and Hannah are names that scream "my parents bought a tract home in a lower-class white subdivision."

I think the most ghetto white names are Jaden, Caden, and Kaydyn, but that's just me.

Unique, but not ghetto names for a baby!?

My sis in law is having twins, a boy and girl and has no idea about what to name them. Her husbands name is Alex not Alexander just alex and he wants his son to be a jr but I think its kinda bland not to be short for Alexander. For a boy I like, Colin, Jude, Marty, Tyler and for a girl, Laura, Riley, Skyler any ideas???

Unique, but not ghetto names for a baby!?
First off... what types of names do they like...

What style of names? (Long names, short names, names w/nicknames, classic names, trendy, biblical, mythological, unusual, old-fashioned, etc.)

Is there any names that they have in their life that they might want to use? (eg - hubby's first/middle name, father's name, best friend's name, other relatives name, maiden name, name you especially love, etc.)

Are there any names that we should avoid? (names that bring unpleasant memories/thoughts to mind, etc.)

Finally - do you want First/Middle combos, or just names to look at? If you want first/middle, how many middle names?

You might consider browsing the SSA's website of names - I found it helpful when finding names for my two :-)

HTH :-)

How do u feel about names that are ghetto or off the wall???

do u think this will hender the child in the future when it comes 2 getting a job or applying for college?? just wondering, this was a topic on the tyra show a few weeks ago?? and btw i have 2 kiddos named ashton(boy) and alise(girl) and i chose these names so they would not be prejudged, do u agree or disagree?? thanks 4 your time

How do u feel about names that are ghetto or off the wall???
I think you did well on the names. I too tried to pick names that were uncommon, but not weird. I wanted my kids names to stand out but not stand out because they were strange. Fate played a cruel trick, though as I named one of my daughters Hillary, long before the Clintons came along, now that name is heard daily! I do agree that people who give their kids ghetto or really outlandish names do their children a disservice later in life. I grew up next door to two little girls named Rainbow and Sunshine. Cute names for 5 year olds, but how do you fell about a lawyer named Rainbow, or a surgeon named Sunshine? I don't think so! Names do have a significant impact on how others percieve you, almost as much as appearance.
Reply:There have been studies done on this and "ghetto" names absolutely hinder a child.......right or wrong. People need to think more when they name their child.......
Reply:they totally hinder the child. its just the way the world is, right or wrong. most ghetto black names sound "criminal". if you have trouble spelling or pronouncing the name, how do you think a potential employer will feel. you did good in naming your children that way.
Reply:I read an article that names like Shanice (my niece's name) are put on the bottom of a pile when applying for a job. So I guess, yeah.. it hinders.
Reply:While I do not judge based off of someone's name when interviewing, some ppl do. It is wrong, but it happens. There is a kid in my daughter's pre-K class and I feel bad for her because her name is like 15 letters long and contains a Q, V, X and P. I have no idea how to pronounce it, but everyone calls her Nesha (not sure why maybe a middle name?).
Reply:well i have a girl in one of my classes name LaKita and I can't see her as someone smart... idk why... I think they are horrible really! I love the name of Alise good choice!
Reply:there is a book called freakonomics, (cant remember the authors names) they did studies on this and confirmed that yes a "ghetto" name will affect the childs ability to progress at the same rate as children with more common and acceptable names. you should read this book if you interested in socio economical questions like this. i did not agree with everything in the book but it was well written and had many valid points.
Reply:i dont know-people say my kids names are ghetto but i luv them-Aaliyah Julia, Diamond Luz and LaDreama Celeste, another girl name i like is Firese Blaze and for boys, Cordero and Damillion (pronounced Damilliown)
Reply:Usually, when someone says "ghetto names" they are actually including names that are ore ethnic, so lets use that terminology instead of ghetto. Second, with no question, if you choose a more ethnic name, your child is prejudged, as a person looking at their application will think almost positively, that the person is black, and therfore, whatever their thoughts on blacks come into play, and now that child, who may have been a wonderful candidate and highly qualified for a particular position, may now never get the chance as they were subject to one person's prejudice. No different than Esteban Cortez, or Gretchen uta, etc. Any of these names can leave a cild predisposed. HOWEVER, I also belive that there are Laquitas' out there that have shown that they were more than their name, and have gone on to get wonderful positions. I believe that there is a Dannicka Alize, that may one day prove to be a fortune 500 buisness owner. It happens, and so by continuing to excercise yur choice in naming your child what you want, minds will inevitably become more open. As for me? My mother named us all good sound names that you would have to meet us in order to know anything more aout who we were. Because of this, I followed her lead , as did my sister, and my children, Hailey, Eithan (biblical spelling), are both named in the same fashion.
Reply:why do you assume they will be prejudged by thier names? what kind of names would be prejudged? what would they be prejudged for?
Reply:They tend to be taken less seriously when it comes time to submit a resume for a job, and are not called for an interview as often as their counterparts with more traditional sounding names.

People make assumptions about their intelligence level and background. Kind of like when people post here and type in "text messaging" language.
Reply:I think you did right by your children. :-)
Reply:i saw that episode and agree with it to a point. i guess it just depends on how ghetto or off the wall the name is and what type of job your kid might be looking for when it grows up. your kids do have a white middle class sound to them. i am assuming thats what you were going for.
Reply:I think that there are a lot of names that bring a certain type if person to mind. For example, the name Bertha sounds like a fat girl. So, a very ghetto sounding name, I think would make people think of, well, the ghetto. It happens with all stereotypes, and a lot of people, although not usually consciously will judge people by their name. I named one of my boys Evan, and people always tell me that Evan sounds like an older person.
Reply:I agree that bad names can negatively impact a kid's future. I mean, can you picture a President named Braelyn Smith?

I don't include names that are legitimate but from other areas of the world in that statement, though. I just mean made up trendy crap like Nevaeh.

Your kids' names are lovely, by the way. :)
Reply:I dont know, i doubt it but some people judge by wierd things such as names! My son is named Harlan, i think he could be just about anything with a name like that. Your kids names are cute too.
Reply:i think Names show character. i like to pick unique names with different spellings. for my daughter i choose Desiree` Nykole and we call her dessie. she thinks shes a princess btw. and with this pregnancy we're going with Beck Alexander for a boy or Marley Alexis for a girl. Does this make my children Rockers or stoners? i dont think so. name your kids how you want. wether it's new turn of the century names or old family pasted down names, just consider the pronouncing of the name and will it be hard for your child or their friends to get used too. good luck with picking a good name
Reply:Theres a difference between black names and off the wall names.

I think its really bad for a kid when he gets a name like "lil rey'' or "t-bone" or something instead of "dwayne johnson"

their persona changes because of it.

Jada Rose

Lavinia is a name from the 1920's that kind of has that "sound" she's looking for. Queenie is another name from the same time period. Just a suggestion, you might try looking up names from that time period and see that there are many names that fit the sound she's looking for.

Blessings
Reply:I really like the names Ashlynn Nicole, Jaylynn Michelle, and Alannah Nicole. I don't think they even sound ghetto but are so pretty. For the boy names, I love the name Jayson Un'dreus (I just love the name Jayson). I think a lot of the names you have picked out are really cute. How about Jalen if it's a boy too?
Reply:I know a very ghetto name and it's even pretty too! The name is Jazzarae (Jazz-AH-ray) it's for a girl.

Jazzarae Ashlynn [say it to yourself! it can't can't anymore ghetto lol]

for boys: Jayden is more of a anti-ghetto boy actually... Ty'Shuwn is the most ghetto sounding.
Reply:Ha ha ha why we keep doing this ghetto name thing. Come on now it's old I thank the Lord I don't have a ghetto name most of these names are ridiculous. Makayla, Gracee and Olivia are nice names Jayson is the only boys name that I could make out so I guess that one is okay to.
Reply:Your sister can name her child whatever she wants it is not your decision.

I can't belive you would put the full - first, middle, and last

name on the internet for strangers and child molesters to see.
Reply:Jada Rose - girl

Jayson Michael - boy

Just tell her "look you are 1/2 white and your hubby is white, you do not need a ghetto name!"

And why isn't the husband helping defend his future kid??
Reply:Jayden Malachi and Alannah Nichole

I also like Athena for a girl I went to school with girl who named her little 1/2 white, 1/2 African American daughter that... she is beautiful and very smart.
Reply:Jayden Malachi Griffin

Reply:I like Alannah Nicole and Jayden Malachi

Sorry, the boys names are all horrid.

The girls actually look a lot better.

Reply:I like Jayson Malichi and Makayla Rose. I know i have mixed and matched but those are the names that seem nicest to me.
Reply:Kennedy Grace and Ashley or Ashlynn Nicole. Olivia Taylor is nice
Reply:Damien Malachi

Keisha Daniella
Reply:ASHLYNN NICHOLE
Reply:why have you "compromised" the child isn't yours..she can call her baby what she wants
Reply:Your question made me laugh! I sympathize with you -- I had a friend who just loved the name Nevaeh, and no one had the heart to tell her it sounded extremely ghetto. Luckily, I was able to steer her toward something else modern and ethnic, but not ghetto.

Your sister seems to like uncommon names with unusual letters or spellings. You may want to look for some foreign names to suggest to her, as those will be very uncommon and are often spelled in ways that look odd to English-speakers, but they will still be legitimate names instead of ghetto inventions. African, Indian, and Arabic names might work especially well. Here are some ideas:

Girls:

Amira

Amaia

Keira/Ciara

Tatiana

Liana

Sasha

Sarai (suh-RYE)

Naima

Asha

Jamila

Karima

Lina

Saida

Samira

Samiya

Soraya

Yasmin

Zahrah/Zara

Arya

Amala

Devi

Kala

Lila

Mira

Nila

Adaeze

Adanna

Imani

Nia

Zola

Some combinations I like:

Zara Yasmin (means "blooming jasmine flower")

Zola Imani (means "peaceful faith")

Samiya Adaeze (means "supreme princess")

Soraya Adaeze

Tatiana Sarai

Boys:

On her list, I already like Malachi and Jamil. Malachi Jamil Griffin would be a great name. Tell her it means "my beautiful angel." Maybe that will convince her. (Malachi means "my angel" in Hebrew and Jamil means "beautiful" in Arabic.)

Jason Andreas would be a fabulous name were it spelled correctly. Jayson isn't awful, but Un'dreus is hideous.

Jayden and Kayden aren't as bad as some of her other choices. They're just extremely trendy.

Best of luck to you. I know this is a tough situation. Ultimately, of course, the child's name is up to her and her husband, but polite suggestions are definitely in order if they save the child a lifetime of living with an awful name.

Why do a lot of black people continue to give their kids 'ghetto' names,?

knowing they might be putting their kids at a disadvantage etc. I for one would not want people to start making judgments about my kids upon reading their names (on resumes, job applications, etc. etc..... yet many black people are so irresponsible as to name their kids after drinks, etc. and just in general make up crazy $hit... Why is that? Has anyone read Freakonomics by the way? It is interesting and sad.

Why do a lot of black people continue to give their kids 'ghetto' names,?
Regardless of the parents' race, I see a lot of kids' names that most people would consider highly unusual. This comes from the parents' selfishness and ego. They're not giving any thought as to what may serve their children's best interest.
Reply:PLEASE LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RACISM AND PREJUDICE BEFORE YOU START LAUNCHING THESE WORDS AT ONE ANOTHER; AND WHILE YOU ARE AT IT, LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SEX AND GENDER. YOU CAN START BY OPENING YOUR INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY TEXTBOOK. OOPS, I FORGOT, UNDERGRADUATES DON'T DO THAT - ESPECIALLY AT AUBURN.
Reply:Nobody should have to conform to western white standards. That's just giving in to racism. The real question ought to be "Why do people discriminate against such names?"

By calling these parents "irresponsible," you are being racist by saying that their black culture is something to be ashamed of. How terrible.
Reply:to answer you question Shaniqua,or tameekah

lathisha

what ever your name is

the answer to you question is : is because thier black

it dont matter what you call each other we got one name for you anyways
Reply:I never heard Ghetto names but even Bill Cosby has been Quite disturbed with those African American weird names Kishania,Lashandra, whatever those are.
Reply:Yes, I did read Freakonomics, especially the part about the father who named his kids "Winner" and "Loser," or the two kids named Orangejello and Lemonjello. Or the girl named Temptress. It's unfortunate that they will be labelled this way, but keep in mind you can change your name.

To be honest, the first thing that popped into my head is "why don't more white people name their kids creative names?" I don't like boring average names either.

Mishy is a pretty name :)
Reply:Becuase they can.
Reply:They are attempting to insure a solid place in the welfare line for little Tanequa and Lashonda.

I'm proud of my black brothers and sisters discarding the slave names "Old Whitey" has forced on them. My people will arise and before you know it you'll be voting... "Tyrone for President".

Word to your mother.
Reply:I totally agree with you 100% it is sad. Sad because they think it is cool and that it is their way of being unique.

They fail to realize that everyone is inherently unique.

If you have noticed, ALL of the successful black American men and women, are intelligent, polite, well spoken upstanding citizens.

Not one of them got to where they are today by speaking in ghetto slang, wearing gang clothes, or sleeping the day away waiting for a hand out.

They went out and busted their butts and made something of themselves.

Prime example is Johnny Cochran, "May he rest in peace"

He cam from a poor family, he worked hard and put himself through college, and then returned a lot of what he made back to the community that raised him.

Each and everyone of the Black Americans has the potential to do this...
Reply:Do you mean names like Mishy?
Reply:What exactly is a Ghetto name?
Reply:WHAT ABOUT STUPID 'WHITE' NAMES LIKE "APPLE", "SHILO", "KEANU", "BRANDY", OR ANY OF THE "HIPPY" NAMES LIKE RAINBOW, BUTTERFLY, SKY, RIVER,...........ETC.......... I DOUBT YOU ARE 'BLACK'.....AS MOST "BLACK' FOLK REFER TO THEMSELVES AND THEIR 'PEOPLE' AS AFRICAN AMERICANS........... THINK ABOUT A QUESTION JUST A LITTLE BIT BEFORE YOU ASK IT............. USE SOME "COMMON" SENSE!!!................................... ........................................... ........................................... .............. ........................................... ........................................... bY THE WAY...... MOST "AMERICAN" PEOPLE THINK "WESTERN" FIRST NAMES SOUND REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY STUPID WITH "TRADITIONAL" LAST NAMES!! IT MAKES YOU COME ACROSS AS A "SELL OUT" TO YOUR PEOPLE... IT DOESN'T SUIT YOUR "APPEARANCE" BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT WHITE , NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOUR PARENTS WISH YOU WERE.. AT LEAST 'BLACKS' WITH "GHETTO" NAMES AREN'T DISILLUSIONED AS TO THEIR HERITAGE AND THEIR CULTURE....................... SELL OUT SHOULD BE TATTOOED ACROSS YOUR FORHEAD SINCE THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE WILL THINK WHEN THEY READ OR HEAR YOUR NAME AND SEE YOU IN PERSON!!!!!!!!!! IT'S THE TRUTH!!!!!!! EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FACE IT!!!!!!!!1 EVERY TIME YOU LOOK IN THE MIRROR YOU ARE FACED WITH A PERSON WHO IS NOT WHITE AND WILL NEVER NEVER EVER BE WHITE.. BLEACH YOUR SKIN AS MUCH AS YOU WANT, CHANGE YOUR NAME,, YOU'RE STILL NEVER GONNA BE WHITE... SELL OUT!
Reply:To a certain point, I totally agree with you. But look at C. Rice, she the most powerful woman in the US.
Reply:Well i must tell you that the subject matter that you are venturing into is very subjective and many would call your claims biased. I would say that what african americans"blacks" are just following culture, what you call "ghetto" they percieve as beautiful... Now you seem to follow conformist ideals and what society deams ok. I firmly believe that you should not live life according to what society says we must, i believe you should follow it against what you firmly believe. Now just so you know the statments you have made would infuriate many people, but i commened the slight ignorance that you have. I would look up the conformist model so you know what i mean and i would also learn to understand culture and diversity. I don't mean to bash or any of that.. you seem to want to understand african americans as well as yourself. And i believe you are well on your way you. I hope i helped
Reply:they do it to follow tradition. they aren't 'ghetto' names as much as they are simply traditional. most families do not want to forget their heritage and a name holds a lot of meaning for some families. and they do not do it to put their children at a disadvantage, rather to give them something else to be proud of. a name is unique. and outside of their own home country, many of the names are very rare so therefore the name is something unique to them in their particular area.
Reply:It's not about conforming. What idiot would name thier child after a beer? I think the question isn't posed at African names like Kwame or Vavah.

It's changing a nmae to the point to where no one can spell it right. Amazingly you have those that get mad when you misspell it. There should not be 15 different spellings of Corey, Jasmine, Michael or Roger.

There have been reports taht confirm giving your child a ghetto name like Infant, Listerine, Alazya, Bobo and any tricked up name will give that child a harder time at school and in finding jobs. They are already out the moment that resume shows up. Everyone will expect an uneducated, misbehaving and worthless person.
Reply:That is kind of harsh isn't it? Its a free country and people should be able to name their own damn kids without being criticised for it.

Why do white people name their kids squirrely yuppified names?

Why do mexicans name their kids Paco, Chavo, and Peppe?

Why do chinese name their kids names like Ching, Ding, Ping, Bing, and Chong?

As long as we're stereotyping here, you might as well not leave anyone out.
Reply:I don't answer racist questions. You shouldn't be doing stuff like this. Why don't you try to make the world a better place...
Reply:can you list some examples? I'm afraid that I am not following you.

Sincerely,

White Cracker Jack Smith
Reply:They don't have "ghetto" names. Children are simply given those names because the parents refuse to hide their African heritage. They are proud and won't hide their heritage, so they give their children names to reflect their African heritage. It would be the same as an Italian-American parent naming their son Leonardo(ex. Leonardo DiCaprio) or an Indian-American name his or her child Amar(ex. Amar Gopal Bose, the founder of Bose Corporation).
Reply:All names should have a sentimental value,no matter where you are from. What does your name mean? Now this thing about the ghetto names really confuses me......Sounds like you have some bitterness against black people, don't be a (As the UK would say) BLOKE!
Reply:Some people just don't think about the future.

Why dont they give hurricanes ghetto sounding names?

i think that it would be awesome if some hurricanes had some ghetto sounding names...what do you think?

Why dont they give hurricanes ghetto sounding names?
Makes sense to me.*
Reply:They should be ethnically diverse all the way around, and include some Hispanic and other groups in there.
Reply:lol i actually heard a joke about that so the street people could understand what was coming at them.hurricane shameika is a comin grab ur chirren

Reply:That would be funny. Those hurricanes go around causing trouble like some people do.
Reply:Or even posh ones. Hurricane Percival anyone?
Reply:FYI:

For hundreds of years, hurricanes in the West Indies were named after the particular saint's day on which the hurricane occurred. An Australian meteorologist began giving women's names to tropical storms before the end of the 19th century. In 1953, the U.S. National Weather Service, which is the federal agency that tracks hurricanes and issues warnings and watches, began using female names for storms.

In 1979, both women and men's names were used. One name for each letter of the alphabet is selected, except for Q, U and Z. For Atlantic Ocean hurricanes, the names may be French, Spanish or English, since these are the major languages bordering the Atlantic Ocean where the storm occur.

So who decides what names are used each year? The World Meteorological Organization uses six lists in rotation. The same lists are reused every six years. The only time a new name is added is if a hurricane is very deadly or costly. Then the name is retired and a new name is chosen.

I guess the World Meteorological Organization is not into ghetto names probably don't know any either.

Personally! the names are boring as Hell though! but forgive me lord I'm not complaining, cause we haven't seen one in quite a while. whoooosh! You're right though. They've never used my name and it's just an ordinary every day name. I can never figure that one out.
Reply:The people who give hurricanes their names actually don't just 'think them up' ... there is a list made up of different names in alphabetical order, and a storm is named when it becomes a 'tropical storm' ... and not all become hurricanes. The people who make these lists must use all of the past lists to be sure they don't repeat any names for a certain amount of time, and they are all white people evidently who are very 'normal' and 'middle class.' I think that we'll get 'ghetto sounding names' when there are some blacks who don't think that 'ghetto names' are prejudicial against blacks on the list of people who name the hurricanes.
Reply:like Hurricane Aquanetta? lol

what about hillbilly or backwoods names, like Becky Sue?
Reply:We have enough of those to try to pronounce as it is, thanks.
Reply:When you say "ghetto" do you mean like names a black person might have? I can see where some black people will not find this humorous or awesome.
