Do you think the name Brooklyn for a girl is ghetto?
My friend lives in L.A. but is originally from Brooklyn %26amp; wants to name her daughter Brooklyn, but it reminds me of the brooklyn ghetto, do you like the name?
i do give her points though because it is not a trendy name like ashley or emily, etc..

Honestly, after living in Brooklyn for 5 years, I can tell you it's not the type of place you'd want to name a pretty little girl after. It's not all ghetto by any means, but it isn't a beautiful historic city like Savannah or Paris.

I thought I heard it on a commercial last week. I was disappointed. It was so original. Makayla was close but still didn't ruin it.

If you go with a spelling that is too unique, then she'll be correcting people on how to spell her name for the rest of her life (which can be a little annoying). I am a white and im in 7th grade and im from the "ghetto".My name is Carmen, My parents are black and i have 5 black brothers and 3 black sisters. I went to an all black school my whole life and for some reason we moved and now im in an all white school. i get made fun of because everyone says i act black and my name is really ghetto and that i need to go back to the ghetto. Many people think that just a name is not in the top 100 names for babies it's unusual and awkward. Many names that are commonly used by african americans are actual names not made up like many people think they are. Here's a few examples in the difference...

BTW there is no such thing as race, there is only economic strata and tribes, we are genetically not unique to even qualify as having subspecies in humans so I do not feel there is any good way to qualify folks as being of a different race. Well, that's coming from my biological/evolutionary/geneticist/anthr... thinking, at most we come from familial moieties. The real difference you are illustrating here with those names is not ghetto or African American, it's economic stratas - same with trailer trash vs. middle class names. Your "ethnic" names were likely researched and meanings decided on (think educated parents) while the "ghetto" names were names that the parents liked the sound of and often combined names to make a name they liked to hear instead of ones that had meanings that were important to the parents. Same deal with "Bobby Jo", perhaps my least favorite name of all time.

Is Daelyn a ghetto name?
My boyfriend's sister named her baby Daelyn Rochell and my boyfriend thinks it sounds so ghetto. I think it sounds alright. I mean I wouldn't name my child that, but I don't think it's ghetto. What do you all think?

I think if it were Daelyn Alexandra or Daelyn Lucille, or something less unique would sound better. Daelyn Michele would have been a good choice too.

Names that are branded "ghetto" have been a hot topic lately so I did my research and found that most of the names that people claim to be "ghetto" have Latin, Arabic, or African roots. Yet these names are often ridiculed for "having no meaning" and associated with being "ghetto" and/or stupid.

Why don't people criticize and call names like "Bristol", "Trig", "Piper", etc. ghetto? Cause those names surely have no meaning what so ever. If you ask me, I think it's a cultural standard, and those not familiar with the black race must criticize what is unique because it is not of their own. They don't understand it, that's why.

There have been a lot of educated people named "ghetto" names, but because of stereotypes they are automatically assumed to be stupid or "ghetto". Although, it would not be a good idea to have your kid be named something "ghetto". It can hurt their job opportunities, because when people see that name on an application, they probably won't hire them.
